If you are looking for the Withlacoochee River in an
atlas, there are two of them and both in Florida. We paddle the one that begins in the Green Swamp and flows 160 miles north
to the Gulf of Mexico. One of the few rivers in this nation that flows south to north. Our trips are as short as two nights-three
days or as long as seven nights-eight days.
On longer journies you will paddle 10 to 16 miles a
day, with the current, through a major upland forest of ancient Oaks, Pines and Cypress. A woodland that is home to deer,
bear, turkeys, wild pigs, eagles and numerous other first settlers of this country.
Leaving the forest, your journey will take you into
an interior marshland that is an estuary for hundreds of species of birds for most of the year; a musical aviary. This is
a wilderness kayak camping vacation with stunning greenery and daily glimpses of civilization.
On the longer trips you may visit several river communities
where people live the same way they did decades ago; including the night time poaching of alligators and other wildlife. No,
it's not a re-run of Deliverance. These people are hard scramble poor but friendly.
We do many different trips on this river. We are familiar
with the people and the wildlife and can lead you from the swamp to the Gulf.
We are the only outfitter running this paddling vacation
and its the only river tour we do. Let us know what you would like and we will tailor a vacation to your expectations. Very
few bugs in late fall and winter.
